the Button Up Refashion Swap – My Dress

Following up from last week’s refashion swap, here’s Suzannah’s creation that was made for me!

Pretty cute, right? A girl like me can never have too many red shoes to go with a dress like this. Now, if you recall, I mentioned in my post on a certain sheath dress that I’ve tried and tried to do gathers at my waist and each time, I’ve found that the gathers and moi just don’t quite go together. But OMG, lookey here – there is gathering at the waist on this dress, and they work! Magical. I’m in love! If you read yesterday’s post, you’ll know I find this to be somewhat of a revelation too – maybe I’ve tried skirts and dresses with just too much gathering at the waist and that’s why it didn’t work for me. I’m eager to try an experiment on a new sewing project.

I’m so impressed with this creation because its something that I more than likely would have overlooked for myself – not because I don’t like it, but because sometimes its hard for me to break out of my own box. But I love the style. Thanks Suzannah!

By the way, I know there’s only one photo here – my camera died just as I snapped this photo and another really blurry one! Also, yes I did chop off my hair. The jury is still out for me as to whether I really like it or not, but believe me when I say that the middle schoolers DO NOT approve! It’s almost crazy how bad kids are at lying at that age! I’ve been asked about 40 times if I cut my hair, to which I say yes, to which they give me that look that says “Were you sane when you did that?” yet their mouth says, “Oh its….cute.”

Don’t miss out on the other ladies in their creations either:

  1. Hello Sunni!
I think you look great, both the dress and your hair. I work with kids aged 12-16 and I have to think about what clothes I put on in the morning and what I look like. Recently I was diagnosed with Alopecia Universalis (NO body hair AT ALL, not on your head or eyebrows or legs etc) and first I wore a wig but it itches so I switched to scarves and then all the pupils thought I have cancer, not so much fun… You just have to bear in mind that the next second they start to think about something else than you or your hair, because that’s what they’re like at that age – egocentric.
    Anyway, hang in there!

  2. You are too cute. That’s a great shot for only getting one! I love your red shoes, but that yellow bracelet just makes it! Susannah did an awesome job. It fits you perfectly!

  3. That dress is super cute on you! Is the contrast waistband a knit or woven? I can’t tell from here… either way, I really love it! You can totally rock those primary colors ๐Ÿ™‚

And I like your hair! Don’t even listen to those kids… at that age, they’ve mastered the art of being, ehhhh Little Shits. Like, down to a science. And they’re trying to push the envelope as far as they can. Don’t let ’em get to you – they probably have awful hair themselves & are just jealous of your gorgeous reddness.

  4. Yay, so cool to see it on you! Love it with the accessories. =) The skirt is pretty narrow, so the gathers don’t bring in a whole lot of full skirt-ness at the waist, just keep it so you can move around comfortably… =) So glad it fits!

Your hair is cute, too! What do middle schoolers know? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Gosh, this is too cute! I love the way that the red midriff panel defines your waist– it’s so flattering! And I think your hair looks cute! I would take any kind of hair/fashion/anything feedback from middle schoolers with a gigantic grain of salt– by far my worst fashion and hair mistakes were committed in middle school (and I thought they were the cooooooolest at the time)! Like, we were all about using Sun-In all the time (anybody remember that stuff? it looked terrrrrible!) and bright green eye shadow and all kinds of horrible things.

  6. The dress is so cute! And I love the new ‘do as well (ignore those silly middle school kids!). ๐Ÿ™‚ Somehow, I missed your previous post–off to read it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. So cute, both the dress and the hair! Don’t listen to those middle schoolers, they’re a pile of crazy. I get the creeps just thinking about my middle school years….hahaha!

  8. That is really cute! I love the red shoes and wide red waistband!

And don’t listen to the middle schoolers. ๐Ÿ˜› I think your hair looks really cute! Although I know the feeling on the jury still being out, I got a recent haircut I’m still usually pretty meh about so I know the feeling.
